Christopher Cook is best known for his contributions to the field of public safety communications and police-media relations. Assailing through the ranks from police officer to chief of police, he draws from real-world experience over the past three decades to serve as an expert instructor, executive coach, and mentor. Over 7,500 students have received instruction at various classes and conferences since 2011.
Specializing in strategic communication, crisis management, and media relations, Chief Cook has published and collaborated on more than three dozen professional journals, magazine articles, and law enforcement publications. Executive teaching engagements span across the country including adjunct professor assignments at colleges.
One of only a handful of law enforcement leaders across the country, Chief Cook received an invitation and testified before the President’s Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice – Community Trust and Respect for Law Enforcement Panel in 2020. As a consummate leader, he currently teaches for the Sam Houston State University’s Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. As part of this assignment and important aspect of executive leadership, every police chief in Texas representing 2,762 agencies attends his 4-hour strategic communication course during the 2024-2025 training cycle.
Chief Cook serves on the Caruth Police Institute Executive Advisory Board, Institute for Law Enforcement Administration Advisory Board, and the Fort Worth Airpower Council. He is Past President of the National Information Officers Association, Past Chair for the International Association of Chiefs of Police – PIO Section, and Past Chair for the Major Cities Chiefs Association – PIO Committee.
Educational attainment includes a Master of Arts Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Arlington and completion of PhD core-level course work at Tarleton State University, a member of the Texas A&M University System. He is a graduate of the FBI National Command Course Session #4, the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police Session #63, Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute for Texas’ Leadership Command College Session #67, and 96th School of Police Supervision at the Institute for Law Enforcement Administration. He is also a member of Leadership North Texas Class #15 and the 2024 Certified Public Manager Program at Texas State University.
Raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metropolitan area, he is an avid photographer, reader, and frequent traveler to the Hawaiian Islands. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends. As a USAF veteran, he advocates for our men and women in the Armed Forces by volunteering at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.
